About

Hersh MakkarAt the beginning of our last century, there were not many regulations for running a business as there are today. Consider the following three rules that were posted in a carriage and wagon works manufacturing plant in Indiana in 1872.  One, each clerk will bring a bucket of water and a scuttle of coal for the day's business. Two, men employees will be given an evening off each week for courting purposes or two evenings a week if they go regularly to church. Three, any employee who smokes Spanish cigars, uses liquor in any form, gets shaved in a barber shop, or frequents public pool halls, will give us reason to suspect his worth, intention, integrity, and honesty. Unfortunately or fortunately, in today's market, running a business requires understanding complex issues such as understanding contract laws, employment laws, immigration laws, etc. Of course, we are not suggesting that an entrepreneur must tackle these tasks on his/her own. Rather, because the burden of compliance is on the entrepreneur, an entrepreneur has the responsibility of either learning from his advisers or gaining knowledge on his/her own.  To assist our small and mid-size businesses in meeting their goal of compliance is why we have attempted to post articles on this blog. The goal is to post information about commonly encountered issues by entrepreneurs in general. Finally, we will post legislative or case law updates on issues related to corporate law as well.  If you have any questions and/or suggestions, please drop us a comment.
